"Technically-legally" you're probably right, but you miss the BIG POINT. Do you really think anyone would give 20% to 50% of their earnings to the IRS if the IRS didn't have thugs working for them who are only to willing to use force to squeeze it out of the taxpayer? Isn't that kinda what Al Capone's thugs did when businesses didn't pay their protection money? What's the difference? The IRS is (when you cut away the mumbo-jumbo) the same type of operation as Capone's was, huh?

Smerk, you got that right! Like the rest of the overpaid parasites in DC who life off of the earnings and savings of the honest working folks, the Supreme Court fatcats know that rendering a decision that the income tax laws are unconstitutional might have a dramatic effect on their incomes, extravagant benefits and lavish private lifestyles. Oh yes, they find those income tax laws constitutional everytime. I mean everytime. HaHaHa! What a racket Washington DC has become. HaHaHa!

Yes, and the members of the Supreme Court have a "vested" interested in the Constitutionality of the INCOME tax laws, don't they?
RetSquid (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
@SmerkNomGoolThose 'series of statutes' means it really is legal. It is enforced just like all the other laws. The Supreme Court has ruled on the Constitutionality many times.

The real question is not whether the US income tax is legal or constitutional. The fact is most of us pay it, not because there is a series of statutes in Title 26 etc., but because we fear the consequences if we don't. If we refuse to pay, or try to hide our earnings/savings, the gov't will resort to almost measure including violent force to take it. The fact that our gov't is quite willing to use force is, in my opinion, what makes it wrong.

Does not matter. Those in power do what they want. And it is up to the people to say "NO I choose not to agree with yourimpostions."You do NOT have to give PERSONAL info to anyone.

@doosi82 "States are only given powers to ratify."And ALL of the States agree that the 16th Amendment was ratified. Even the few that didn't ratify it agree that it was ratified by the rest.
